Today was our travel day and we came up the Expressway from El Dorado, KS to Emporia and then took I-35 into Kansas City. We went 435 west around Kansas City and that was a breeze. We usually go 435 east to go to St. Louis and there is much more traffic on that. We aren't going to St. Louis this trip, but we plan to do that in the fall. We arrived at Maysville, MO and will spend two nights here. We will cache tomorrow. We are at the Pony Express RV park and it is quaint and has a hiking trail, which we did when we got in. It has a pen with small animals, so we can see that this is a summer draw for families. They also have a small restaurant connected to the office and I guess their pizza is really good. We're eating in again tonight. We saw a car pass us today and some young gal was driving and her license plate said, HIKE GC so she hikes and geo-caches. A gal after my own heart! We have no television reception here so I shouldn't have complained when we could only get ABC in Lawton, OK and ABC and NBC in El Dorado! We will survive. We do have good internet service here, though. Non-eventful day!
Adler's Midwest Meandering Spring 2021
3/31/21 This is our last day in our park in Apache Junction for this winter, and we have decided to do a 'mini-blog' for our travels back to Wisconsin. We will be on the road about 3.5 weeks so it will be short-lived, but we are packing a lot of things in our travels. We are gearing our meandering around our favorite things to do, which is hike, bike and geo-cache. Most of our stops are planned because of the interesting things that we are finding through geo-caching. We were introduced to geo-caching in October of 2007 by our son, Mike, our daughter-in-law, Lori and grandson, Greg. They took us to Kettle Moraine State Forest Lapham Peak Unit, near Delafield and we were hooked immediately. In this time of Covid, it has been our salvation this winter. It has gotten us out to enjoy the beautiful Arizona desert, and get some much needed exercise. So, you should have received the link to our blog and if you want to travel along wi...

ReplyDeleteYou are in our stomping ground. Our daughter is in Lansing, KS, son-in-law at Ft Leavenworth, not the prison, just the Post. My sister started her working career in Stanberry, MO and I think Gary told you, 75 miles from my high school.
ReplyDeleteIf you go through Des Moines, there are great campgrounds on Saylorville Lake, run by the Corp of Engineers. We worked there one summer at a day use area called Walnut Ridge. Still have friends working at one of the campgrounds. Enjoy!
HI Gary and Eloise, yes, we have stayed at Saylorville and it is a huge and beautiful park. We visited our friend, Jo Muir in Rippey, Iowa from there. You might remember them from being in the Buttes. We hiked with Gene, and Jo quilted with me. Great memories. We see there is a wonderful bike trail between Saylorville and Rippey and we always think we will have to go back. We are partial to the corps of engineer parks, as they are so spacious, clean and beautiful, and always around water! That's a given!
