We stayed in the Madison area before returning to Wittenberg, and visited some family, and we went shopping at REI. I bought a new pair of hiking boots there but Jim couldn't find anything. They were really out of a lot of things, and blamed it all on the cargo boats that were held up in the Suez Canal. They told us that things would be stocked up again in June, hopefully.
These boots were made for walking, and that's just what I'll do!
We stopped in Waunakee to visit Jim's sister, Barb and pick some items that she had for us. We didn't see her all winter, as she didn't go to Arizona, so it was good to catch up with her and 'see her in person'. She had some of her famous chocolate chip cookies for us, too! We haven't been going inside anyone's home, even with having our two shots and she did, also. They are relaxing the rules now about people mingling if they all have had the vaccination. I was instructed to still use caution, as my chemo pills weaken the effectiveness of the vaccine. We will continue to stay the course!
Friday afternoon, we drove down to Delafield, WI to visit our son, Mike and his wife, Lori, and grandson, Greg. It was so good to see them, as we haven't seen them in two years! Mike smoked some wild caught salmon and we feasted on that, and of course, we got a couple games of Euchre in. All is good on that front. Greg is a junior in high school and he's getting lots of college 'invites'.

We were both anxious to get home to see how our rhubarb was doing. We got 2 roots from our son, Mike in 2019 and we didn't pull it last year, even though it was pretty tempting! They recommend to wait until the second summer to pull it, so it gives the roots plenty of time to get established. We noticed that the leaves had been nipped a bit by frost, so we covered it with a beach towel to prevent that from happening. When I checked on it this morning, the beach towel was covered with snow and ice so we had snow showers overnight. Not far north of us, they were to get 1 to 3 inches of snow. Yes, it's pretty early yet and this is Wisconsin!

We are back home in Wittenberg, and find all is well with our 'homey shed', or Eagle's Landing. We had it built in 2006 and sold our house in October of that year. It's been quite a ride. Now to attend to the doctor appointments that we chose to forego last year, due to Covid, and we have most of them scheduled for May. We do plan to do some short trips around Wisconsin this summer and also the UP of Michigan. We have 5 counties in the UP that we need to cache in to fulfill our counties from Mexico to Canada. We were able to connect the stray ones that we had on our way home from Arizona. We are getting notices from geo-cachers attempting our caches that we planted in our area. One guy has gone back to them for the fourth time and he just made mention that he took a Geiger Counter and a mirror plus all his other TOTTS to find our caches. We planted 22 on the Mountain Bay Bike Trail that we call Eagle's Challenge Caches, because they are quite hard to find. We will get our bikes out and do our Spring maintenance on them when the weather warms up. We hope we have given you a good understanding of what geo-caching is and maybe it will entice some of you to get the app for your phone or get a GPS and try it. Thanks to all for tagging along, and the great comments. It's good to be home!
Thanks again for all your interesting writing on your blogs..
ReplyDeleteYou say you play Euchre.. there are lots of different rules. Do you have the no-trump rule (no not Donald) where if everyone passes and then you can make it no-trump and Aces are high?
We have a computer Euchre but that no-trump option is not available.
Have a great spring and summer.

Glad you're back home safe and sound! You've had a great run. We need some hiking shoes too (it doesn't seem like a 1 week delay in the Suez should set things back 2 months).
ReplyDeleteWe did play euchre once with friends. Good thing they could keep score...it sure made my head swim. How about some of that rhubarb with some strawberries made into a pie?
Have a terrific rest of the year.
There’s no place like home! 🤣. Sure was fun reading your blog! After all the hiking you’ve been doing, I’m sure it was time for a new pair of hiking boots!!!
