Hello to all,

Our daughter called to tell us that our account has been hacked on our hotmail account.  Spread the word!  We are working to correct it.  We have no idea where we picked this up, but we have heard from our daughter, Judy, Jack Gable and Ruth Gamble.  Sorry for any inconvenience.  I hope we all know NOT to send money to anyone via gift cards or other means.  This has put a wrench in our day!         Jim and Marlene

Much later today.......we notified most people on our address book that we could and hope we didn't overlook anyone.  With the threat of a scam artist, I'm sure we are all aware to first check out the source of it and you will find that it is a hoax.  Now about the rest of the day.  There was nothing more we could do, so we went to Anamosa, Iowa, just south of where we are camped.  We wanted to go to the virtual cache there, as it was called, 'The Big House'.  As it turns out, it is a maximum security institution that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  It houses approximately 950 offenders and employs over 300 staff members. It was built in 1873 by the inmates, using limestone from the nearby Stone City quarries.  It was a masterpiece and known as the 'White Palace of the West'.

This is the center of the building with more prison space to the right side of it.  This was quite ornate and although I am just guessing, I think it is the administrative part of the building.

The rest of the caches were just regular caches, and we found 9 in all.  We did acquire the county of Jones as having cached in, so that completes our counties from Mexico to the Michigan border.  We have to go to the UP this summer and get 5 counties up there to connect us with Canada.

This is a bison tube, and the cache owner wired it to a sign post out in the country.  We also did a multi-cache in the Pioneer Prisoner Cemetery outside of Anamosa.  We had to find a gravestone for 'Benjamin' and get answers from that for the coordinates to the final.  We added and subtracted correctly and found the cache at the entrance to the cemetery.  It was another bison tube put down the post hole and attached by a fish line.  It was very hard to see, but we made the find.  Tomorrow we will cache in Monticello and Cascade, Iowa.

  1. Crazy start to the day but you made lemonade! That you’re up to the Michigan border is quite an accomplishment. The UP will be a fun trip!
