We have a sunny day, but cool, so we are going to Keokuk County to claim a cache for our Arizona challenge cache. The county is named after Sauk Chief Keokuk. We wondered if it was an Indian name, and indeed, it is. We found two cemetery caches in Keokuk County and the first one took us to a quaint old outhouse! Here we go again. One for the Outhouse Club!
Our next cache took us to 'The Rock' of Mahaska County. It is a Freedom Rock and is a permanent memorial honoring all the past, present and future veterans of Mahaska County. It was painted on all four sides, with the flag painted on top of it. These were all prominent servicemen from different wars that are painted on this side. We had to file a DNF here, as we looked within a 30 feet radius of our G-zone and we came up empty. That happens sometimes. We thought it was in the light post 'skirt lifter' as that is where a lot of them are hidden, but we looked that over very well, and came up with nothing.
We found some humor in this little ice cream shoppe! If you pull it up closer, you will see that they have small, medium and large udder sweet treats! They had a good cache here and we found it quickly.
The cache container at the sweet shoppe is the little box on top of this meter box. They painted it to match and it blended in very well.
This is another old pioneer cemetery. The cache was hanging in a pine tree back in the corner.
The cache owner here disguised his bison tube with a butterfly, and he put it up the hollow part of the light pole. We had to 'raise the skirt lifter' and reach in and feel up in the hole to retrieve it.
We found a great way to cap off our day, and get a picture of the Tulips at Culver's. We move up Hwy. 151 tomorrow, and we cancelled our reservation that we had in Urbana, and found one in Monticello instead. It is closer to the caching that we want to do, so this works out for the best. We had intended to do some biking on the nice trail between Cedar Rapids and Waterloo, but it's going to be too chilly. We've had good planning and the weather has co-operated throughout, for the most part. They are predicting snow in this area tomorrow. It's going southeast, so we won't be affected by it.
Snow?? I guess... it is April. Glad you’re able to change your plans so easily! Love the tulips and the Culver’s. The Frosty Udder is quite the name! Another grand day! Safe travels!! 🌷💖
