We had a great travel day, but we were both glad to land for the night. We are in Amarillo, TX at the Oasis RV Park, just for an overnight. We called the bakery at Casa Blanco to see if they had some day old bread for us, as we knew we were too early to get fresh, when we got there. Much to our surprise, they only take orders now, and they are booked a month out. So, we didn't get our Indian bread that we really like. I think Covid and Easter played into them being out of bread today. We are seeing all of the I-40 areas in a serious drought, and the weatherman in Albuquerque said that they hoped for an early monsoon season. They had a fire in Bosque, just south of there yesterday, but they must have gotten it out, as we didn't hear anything today. That could be very serious for the Albuquerque area. Another thing we saw on tv last night that piqued our interest, was that they are giving lots of different promotions for people to get vaccinated. One that I heard said they would give $100.00 worth of groceries if people got vaccinated. They also said they would laminate your vaccination card for free. We were told not to laminate it, because we can use that card to add our vaccinations at a later date, which we think we will be getting. One more thing on New Mexico. We were informed a few years ago that if you want to buy Native American items at a trading post in New Mexico, the only Native American owned stores are in Gallup and they are owned by the Richardson's. The other trading posts in that area are owned by the Iranians.
We we traveled I-40 in New Mexico, we passed the Old Laguna Pueblo and Missions Village and that is where Jim's sister, Virginia stayed and worked with the Native Americans for 13 years. She lived in a lean-to attachment to the white adobe church on the hill. I took this from a moving motor home.
Good-bye New Mexico and hello, Texas! The roads seemed to improve once we hit Texas, so that was very welcome. We always pass the CAFO's when in this part of Texas and we always wonder what direction the wind is from. Sometimes, it's has such an odor that a person can hardly breathe. It is blowing pretty well today but no smell.

Welcome to Texas, even if for just a short stay! Safe travels!

Wow! $100. Worth of groceries might help some decide to get their COVID vaccination? My niece in Colorado just found out she has COVID. She was to get her first shot tomorrow..... she’s 46. 😬
ReplyDeleteLove the Cadillac Ranch! LOL! Bet the kids had fun painting them!
Happy Easter! 🐇🐣🐰
Happy Trails!
Hello Len-jen, first of all, glad to have you aboard! I had to interject on your comment, and say how sorry we are to hear your niece has contracted Covid! Hopefully, she won't be too ill with it. Keep us 'posted' along the way with her progress. Regarding the $100 enticement to get people in NM to be vaccinated. Evidently they are reluctant to get it, for whatever reason, and they are doing different things to try to change that. Some people hate needles and we hardly felt ours. Prayers for your niece!
