We got up fairly early today to get packed up and moved out of this beautiful campground outside of Pella, Iowa. We just finished at the dump station when we saw snowflakes! By the time we got west of Pella, going toward Monroe and then north to I-80, it was snowing so heavily, that we only had about 1/2 mile visibility. The snow was sticking to the ground and it looked cold! The snow was to head southeast and we are going northeast to Monticello, Iowa. By the time we reached Cedar Rapids, it was clearing but the winds were picking up. We changed our plans for this stop. We wanted to stay 3 nights in Urbana, IA so we could cache and bike. Well, this weather is not fit for biking, so we cancelled there and was able to get into Jellystone Park in Monticello. We aren't impressed. So, we hit a snag in our great planning. We got in and set up and decided to go south to Springville to get some caches, as that is Linn County and one of the counties we need for our connecting counties. This mother/daughter duo used to cache and quit four years ago, and now decided to take it back up. They placed all the caches in Springville, which amounted to nine. The first one was missing. The second one had just been replaced by the CO and we found it on the ground and not in the tree where it was supposed to be. The third one was a good hide in a chain link fence. The next one was to be hidden under a rock by the gazebo and there was no rock but a stick of wood. But it was there! The next one was in a heap of things chewed up by the lawnmower man that was cutting the grass. The container was there but no log sheet inside, so we called it a day. We only needed one cache in Linn County to count for our connecting counties, and we are claiming four! We are hoping the weather changes to a more favorable day for caching, and we'll have caches in Monticello, Anamosa, and maybe Cascade to claim. If it continues to be windy and cold, it will be a day to get caught up 'at home'. I think we need a rest, anyway. I know chili is on the menu for tomorrow night! I'm sorry that I don't have any pictures to post today.
Adler's Midwest Meandering Spring 2021
3/31/21 This is our last day in our park in Apache Junction for this winter, and we have decided to do a 'mini-blog' for our travels back to Wisconsin. We will be on the road about 3.5 weeks so it will be short-lived, but we are packing a lot of things in our travels. We are gearing our meandering around our favorite things to do, which is hike, bike and geo-cache. Most of our stops are planned because of the interesting things that we are finding through geo-caching. We were introduced to geo-caching in October of 2007 by our son, Mike, our daughter-in-law, Lori and grandson, Greg. They took us to Kettle Moraine State Forest Lapham Peak Unit, near Delafield and we were hooked immediately. In this time of Covid, it has been our salvation this winter. It has gotten us out to enjoy the beautiful Arizona desert, and get some much needed exercise. So, you should have received the link to our blog and if you want to travel along wi...
