Happy Easter to everyone!

It was another travel day for us, as we moved from Amarillo, TX to Lawton, Oklahoma.  We are at Buffalo Bob's RV Park, and it will be a good stay here for a week.  I have a feeling that is isn't going to be long enough for what we want to do here.  We'll know more tomorrow, when we get out and explore the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, as that was our draw to come here.  As we made our way here, we took I-40 just east of Amarillo, TX and then we decided to take Hwy. 287 to Hwy. 256 and that eventually connected us to Hwy. 62.  It was mostly all rural driving and it was wonderful.  We went 20 miles on 256 and only met 3 vehicles!  One small town along  Hwy. 287 in Texas had a sign that said, 'Exit here, 'ya all'. We started seeing green grass in Amarillo and more so now that we are into Oklahoma.  The Redbud trees are blooming and they are such a wonderful sign of Spring, all the way to Wisconsin.  We get to see Spring bust out all over!  Once we got into OK, the ranchers had started with their tilling of the soil in their humongous fields, and we saw a lot of grazing Red and Black Angus cattle.  No CAFO here! The closer we got to Lawton, the more we could see the Wichita Mountains.  It looks pretty inviting!

Surprise!  That's our scenery shot for today!  When one gets bananas, one makes banana bread!  Thanks, Gary and Eloise!   We hope everyone had a wonderful day!

We are getting questions from several people about the Indian Bread that we missed out on this year, so I am going back on an old file and post a picture of it.  It is delicious if you, slice it and toast it, and put butter and garlic salt on it, or butter and honey, or probably 'anything'!  The one on the left is their 'fancy bread' and the one on the right is their 'plain bread'.  We buy the plain, as we can get more of them in our freezer!  We used to buy the Indian Bread that was made in an outdoor clay oven, and the Natives would bring them to the grocery store by Dancing Eagles Exit 108 in NM.  I remember buying 'Faustine's bread'.  They put their name on the bottom of their loaves.  Then the bakery opened up and we have been buying it there since then. We welcome questions, if you have any.

    1. Hello Len.jen, do you know something we don't about the Wichita Mountains? Have you been here? We will get close today but not sure how far into the mountains we will get. We have 3 regions of caches loaded, and how much daylight??? Hoping to get one region done today. Needless to say, we are excited. You must be a bread lover, also! Both are good. I revise my recipes to make them healthier, if you can make bread healthy! Stay tuned.......

  2. I just checked my email today so this is the first day that I'm reading your blog! Thanks for the route information!! I was wondering how you were going to get from I-40 to Lawton! Thanks also for posting about the Indian bread. Does it taste different than regular wheat bread? You do a mighty fine job of getting those pictures out of a moving motorhome. Does Jim slow down for you at all? Thanks again for doing a blog! I love hearing of your travels and adventures!! Safe travels and may the wind always be at your back!

    1. Hello Jean, oh, yes, Jim is excellent! I am not about to complain! He just tells me to 'stay off the grey lined roads on the map'! It is hard to get some things when moving in the motor home, but there is always the delete button! We wondered who the 'unknown' was, and you are far from "unknown"! lol. Different people want different things, so hopefully, we will get feedback and we'll try to accommodate. Glad you are following us!
