We had another good weather travel day today, with overcast skies, and not so breezy, so that works well for us. We arrived in Pella, Iowa and we were surprised to see so many campers in the park. I just think people are anxious to get out and finally get together. It's been a long winter! We settled in and went into Pella to the bakery.....of course! We were here 3 years ago for the Tulip Festival, which happens every first full weekend in May. We are seeing lots of Tulips blooming already in town, but then again some beds are just buds. We had to stand in line at the bakery for over a half an hour, but it's worth it. We are finally getting the bread that we didn't get in New Mexico!
When we came to the Tulip Festival in 2018, they were lined up for 1 3/4 blocks long to get into the bakery. We heard about the bakery from an Iowa geo-cacher, that spent some time in Arizona, and we met him at a meet and greet. He told us to be sure to get some of the S letter pastries. They have an almond flavor and are very good. Today we got some S letters, 1 Danish roll, 3 strudel rolls and their famous apple cinnamon bread. That will satisfy our sweet tooth!
After our daughter posted something about the S letter pastries, so I had to take a picture and show you our goodies! This should be enough to get people to come to Pella for Tulip Fest!
There are some Tulips open, and we got up close and personal to these!
Our internet service is very weak where we are situated and our phones don't seem to have many bars. We do have television, so we can get the news and weather! With the lack of much power here, I'm hoping this goes through okay. We are supposed to have a group Euchre Tournament with our family tomorrow, but we will need good internet service to do that. We play through Trickster and we do a Google chat beforehand. Then we go on Trickster, and play with sometimes, 3 and 4 tables. Our grandchildren join us whenever they can fit it into their schedules. It has been very fun to do with our family this Winter, in these Covid-19 times! I have our geo-caches loaded that we need to do this weekend, and Sunday looks like the best day for that. We leave here Monday.
Yummmmm! I learned about S cookies from Chef Billy Parisi on Facebook recently: https://fb.watch/4VV6ZJV3JM/
ReplyDeleteThey look phenomenal and bet they taste even better!! 😋
I'll post a picture. They are very good. We saved them for breakfast in the morning!
DeleteWhat a great bakery!! Wow! I had never heard of S cookies. Everything looks really good! And such a cute town. So Pella Windows, yes? Looking forward to your finds and Euchre tomorrow! Enjoy!!
DeleteYes, this is the home of Pella Windows. It's a huge company here, so I'm sure it's a good fit with the touristy stuff that goes on here, also. We are thinking the Gunkel Bakery in Antigo is better than this bakery, but when in Rome, we do as the Romans do! They just know how to market their product and it's a definite draw here. There is also a nice quilt shop on the same block as the bakery.
DeleteGunkel’s bakery in Antigo is the best! Thanks for getting us hooked on it! We can’t go to Antigo without stopping there! 😋
