Our family had set up today as our monthly Google Meet and Euchre Tournament to celebrate April, Spring, Easter and Max and Nick's birthdays.  As you can see some of our family really get their creative juices flowing with the hats, different backgrounds, scarves, and some even added strings of lights.  Our daughter, Karla took a screenshot of our craziness and Jim managed to turn it into a photo that I could attach to the blog.  


We have gotten together every month to celebrate the birthdays in our family, and it has brought our family closer together in this time of Covid-19.  Our son, Mike is to be credited with the idea of the Google Meet and the Euchre game online.  We use Trickster and it connects all of us.  When we were in Arizona for the winter, we had three time zones that played at the same time.  Because I don't have any other pictures to post today, you will notice that our background is a picture of the Chiricahua National Monument, in Cochise Co. in southeastern Arizona.  Some friends in our park just drove down to Willcox to stay overnight and go to the Chiricahua's the next day.  She said she can understand why we love it so much.  So, I will post a few of our favorite pictures from previous trips there.  We have gone back every November since we discovered it in 2006, except in 2013, when we went to the Northwest and did that trip to Arizona. We do some of the same trails every November to help get us in hiking shape for the winter.  

These were taken in 2019.  We have to arrive at the Visitor Center by 8:30 a.m. and we can ride the park van to the top and hike back to the Visitor Center.  It's 7.5 miles.  We see Mushroom Rock on our way back.  

        We pass this huge balancing rock on our way back down, on the same hike from the top.


And here is one more balancing rock.  The wind and rain is going to deteriorate the base and someday it will topple over.  

We call the standing rocks in the Chiricahua's, totem poles.  We have one hike that we do on another trail that is a natural rock bridge.  It is truly a magical place.  God willing, we will go back in the fall.

 3/31/21  This is our last day in our park in Apache Junction for this winter, and we have decided to do a 'mini-blog' for our travels back to Wisconsin.   We will be on the road about 3.5 weeks so it will be short-lived, but we are packing a lot of things in our travels.   We are gearing our meandering around our favorite things to do, which is hike, bike and geo-cache.   Most of our stops are planned because of the interesting things that we are finding through geo-caching.  We have a sunny day, but cool, so we are going to Keokuk County to claim a cache for our Arizona challenge cache.  The county is named after Sauk Chief Keokuk.  We wondered if it was an Indian name, and indeed, it is.  We found two cemetery caches in Keokuk County and the first one took us to a quaint old outhouse!  Here we go again.  One for the Outhouse Club!  This time the cache was hidden near the corner post of the perimeter of the cemetery, and not in the outhouse.   Our next cache took us to 'The Rock' of Mahaska County.  It is a Freedom Rock and is a permanent memorial honoring all the past, present and future veterans of Mahaska County.  It was painted on all four sides, with the flag painted on top of it.  These were all prominent servicemen from different wars that are painted on this side.  We had to file a DNF here, as we looked within a 30 feet radius of our G-zone and we came up empty.  That happens so...

 Today is our last full day in Lawton, Oklahoma and we are ready to move northward.  The winds died down and it turned out to be a beautiful day.  Our daughter, Lynn, son-in-law, Gary and grandson, Sam drove up from Dallas to see us today, as it is only 2 1/2 hours of driving.  How special is that?  With Covid and social distancing, we were able to make a bunch of snack foods and take to the clubhouse and eat there, and no one came in that whole time we were there.  I guess because it was so nice out and people didn't have to deal with the wind.  Lynn and Gary have had their 2 shots of vaccine and Sam kept his distance from us, but we aren't concerned, as we have had our vaccine, also.  We did wear our masks for the duration, except for eating.  Lynn is getting into quilting, so she went 'shopping under our bed'!
